Hospitals run all day and all night, all year round with staff, patients, EMS, police, and patients’ family members in and out at all hours. However, hospital services such as the gift shop, cafeteria, coffee shop, and other non-medical services may end up closing because of the cost of staffing and stocking these services for a third shift. Just because visiting hours are over doesn’t mean that the need for something to eat, to pick up a gift for a patient, or a large coffee for the ER wait is not on the radar. A self-serve gift shop or coffee shop can fill those third-shift needs by deploying a gift shop POS to take payments when staffing with a live human is either not possible or not in the budget.

Wait Times into Service Opportunities

When hospitals close their services, then there’s a gap. A resident can’t get their coffee. A mother with a little one in the ER can’t get a toy to help them feel better a nurse can’t get a mid-shift Tylenol and snack. With ER wait times sometimes averaging as much as an hour (if you’re lucky and it’s a slow night), getting services in place to address staff and family member needs is not so much opportunistic as it is forward-thinking and even kind.

Getting Started

Working with a professional company that specializes in café, restaurant, and gift shop POS systems is a better idea than trying to cobble together a system out of different software apps and hardware. Getting the purchasing department to survey various solutions to the café, gift shop, and other service locations are easy when you have an option already on the table. Partnering with an experienced app and software provider will assure that both the organization and customers are receiving the best possible and most secure service available.
